A Q&A resource developed by RECOFTC in collaboration with the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP), Tebtebba and the UN-REDD Programme, reflecting Indigenous Peoples’ and local communities’ questions and perspectives on carbon markets, with a particular focus on forests and forest carbon. Structured around 13 key questions, it explains how carbon credits and carbon markets work, the opportunities they may present, and the risks they pose when land tenure, consent and rights are not adequately protected. It covers safeguards, FPIC, benefit-sharing, carbon rights, market integrity and the relationship between REDD+ and carbon markets, while highlighting the importance of Indigenous leadership and participation throughout project cycles.
