The Australian Government’s Nature Repair Act passed in December 2023. The Act provides eligible landholders who undertake projects that enhance or protect biodiversity would be able to receive a tradeable certificate that will be tracked through a national register.
The Australian Government is consulting on rules for the program relating to biodiversity assessment instruments and methodology determinations. The Clean Energy Regulator (which will administer the program) is in the process of building its capability and establishing new systems and processes to launch the market in early 2025.
