Native partners with Indigenous Peoples to protect and regenerate 3m2 Squares of the Earth’s most precious and biodiverse ecosystems under threat from human activity, including rainforest, mangroves, coral reefs and more.
Under its methodology, Squares are allocated upon purchase using a geospatial mapping system. Each Square entitles the buyer to 40 years of associated environmental rights derived from the Square (land ownership remains with the communities) and comes with data concerning the carbon, biodiversity and community impact of the Square. This data allows the Square to be used as offsets or contributions in much the same way as a carbon credit or a biodiversity credit, but these are features of the Square, rather than the unit itself.
Each Square is priced using Native’s ABC methodology, taking into account carbon, Additionality, Biodiversity, and Community — each measured on a sliding scale.
80 – 90% of the revenue from Square sales goes back to Indigenous communities.
Native is currently working with the Cambridge Centre for Carbon Credits (4C) and HSAT and to analyse and monitor its projects, and improving its methodology
