Nature Coexistence Support, Japan

Japan has launched a trial for nature coexistence support certificates, which recognises companies that fund or assist in biodiversity conservation projects. Nearly 200 sites have been approved, and the certificates will support transparent reporting under standards like the TNFD. While not tradeable, they aim to incentivise private sector engagement in biodiversity efforts. The program’s full legislation is expected in 2025, and a matchmaking platform will connect companies with relevant projects.
