BIOTA NEXUS has developed a scheme for generating Biodiversity Credits that is based on partnering with aligned NGOs undertaking land conservation activities, whether through afforestation, private land management, Indigenous Peoples’ stewardship, reforestation, mangrove restoration, or any other landscape supporting vital ecosystem services.
Under the model, BIOTA NEXUS partners with NGOs to enhance capacity, set reporting and monitoring indicators, undertake a technical characterisation of the project site and available certifiers and develop credit pricing and a business model.
All collected data, along with the pricing model and other considerations, are systematically organised to facilitate the deployment of the BIOTA market for the specific NGO.
The method leverages blockchain technology to ensure transparency, security, and efficiency in managing biodiversity credits.
BIOTA does not certify or validate projects – NGOs must select a relevant certification body and standard.
