Qarlbo Biodiversity is piloting biodiversity credit projects world-wide, with the aim of achieving real, measurable and verified net-gain of biodiversity over time in project areas. The company aims to identify and restore favourable ecological conditions in simplified production forests, primarily on their own lands. Besides this, Qarlbo Biodiversity has facilitated several pilot projects in Sweden to test a draft version of their Methodology for Biodiversity Credits from production forests landscapes. Pilot projects have also been initiated on the company’s lands in Louisiana, US, where restoring species rich Long-Leaf Pine ecosystems and habitats for the Red Cockaded Woodpecker is the primary conservation objective.
Treebula operates a Swedish digital marketplace for forest owners. In July 2024, Treebula and Qarlbo Biodiversity entered into a partnership to enable forest owners and buyers to safely trade biocredits digitally. Through the collaboration, a technical platform was created that is designed to make biodiversity projects more open, transparent, and traceable.
To date, two projects have entered into funding agreements through the platform, including the Orsa Besparingsskog project which is the pilot project for a methodology to generate biodiversity credits in boreal forests.
Note: Qarlbo Biodiversity is part of the BCA task force and IAPBs community of practitioners as well as engaged regionally in voluntary biodiversity standard work as part of the projects Swedish Biocredit Alliance (SBA-between 2023-2025).
