The Landbanking Group has co-developed with African Parks a scheme to generate “Verified Nature Units” (VNUs). Each unit refers to 1 km² of earth that has maintained its Ecological Integrity for one year. Ecological Integrity is scored on a 0 (not intact) to 1 (fully intact) scale, which is calculated based on Habitat Intactness (measured using remote sensing to detect human-drive disturbances), Flore & Fauna (presence of specific indicator species) and Connectivity. The Landbanking Group’s platform Landler automatically measures biodiversity units by triangulating satellite data, machine learning models and ground data.
